HELTUN High Load Switch is a Z-Wave module that has Thermostatic and Switching functionalities. This is a perfect tool to control your heating system and integrate it into a smart Z-Wave environment providing remote control and energy savings. This is also a great help to control any high load appliances like groups of lights, heaters or individual sockets. There are a lot of use cases to implement with HELTUN High Load Switch:

Heating Functionality

Controlling electric underfloor heating system

HELTUN High Load Switch controls an underfloor heating system by adjusting the temperature of the system based on the desired temperature set by the user. In order to adjust the temperature of the underfloor heating, the NTC sensor is typically placed inside the underfloor heating to measure floor temperature and send temperature readings to the High Load Switch. The NTC sensor is supplied with HELTUN High Load Switch, you may always find it in the product box.

The High Load Switch can also use data from other sensors, such as motion and occupancy sensors, or security alarm, to optimize the heating for energy efficiency. The High Load Switch can also be controlled from the Z-Wave hub that receives data from other temperature sensors and thermostats.

Controlling electric boilers and radiators

HELTUN High Load Switch controls the electric boilers and electric radiators by sending a signal to the boiler or electric radiator to turn on or off based on the desired temperature set by the user. The High Load Switch can also use data from other sensors, such as motion and occupancy sensors, or security alarm, to optimize the heating for energy efficiency. The High Load Switch can also be controlled from the Z-Wave hub that receives data from other temperature sensors and thermostats.

Controlling water heating system and water radiators

HELTUN High Load Switch regulates the temperature in the room by controlling electric water valves based on the desired temperature set by the user.

Retrofit to existing heating system without wiring

HELTUN High Load Switch can make your heating system smart without wiring. In order to do that the High Load Switch should be associated with a Z-Wave valve and will control this valve based on the desired temperature set by the user.

Zone temperature control with HELTUN High Load Switch

Use HELTUN High Load Switch to control one zone in your building by wiring or associating it with water valves inside the zone. The High Load Switch will control the valve(s) based on the desired temperature set by the user.

Measure precisely how much you spend on heating

The High Load Switch precisely measures power consumption of the connected heating system and sends the data to the Z-Wave Hub. You can see how much you spent on the heating for the given time period, total consumption of your building, or consumption of an individual zone.

Using external connections to control heating mode via security alarm or button

HELTUN High Load Switch has external connection inputs S1/Sx to wire external devices like security alarms or buttons. When S1/Sx is short-circuited, the High Load Switch activates preset mode or turns off. Examples of typical use cases:

  • automatically activate energy-saving mode when you activate an alarm leaving your home,

  • automatically activate energy-saving mode when you press the bedside “go to sleep” push button.

Retrofit: Making your existing floor heating system smart

Although HELTUN High Load Switch comes with 3-meter NTC sensor in the box, it is possible to connect it to any NTC sensors ranging from 1 to 100 kΩ. Just replace your “dumb” heating thermostat with HELTUN’s smart one and enjoy intelligent functionality that makes your life comfortable and your heating system energy-saving!

Note: If an NTC sensor other than 10 kΩ is used, sensor parameter value should be changed in the settings menu.

Using voice control to regulate heating

Many Z-Wave hubs work with virtual assistants such as Alexa or Google Assistant, which allows you to control connected High Load Switch using voice commands.

Create intelligent programs based on heater temperature and time

HELTUN High Load Switch allows you to set limits for floor (or other heater) temperature, as well on/off time duration. This provides the opportunity to turn heating on or off for the specified period of time but keeps floor temperature within the set limits.

Quickly dry wet floors with DRY mode

Activate DRY mode if a high floor temperature is required for a limited period of time. For example, after washing the floor. A time range of 5 to 90 minutes can be set. As the Dry

Time passes, the High Load Switch will automatically change Mode to the one set in special parameter “Mode To Switch After Dry Mode Operation Completion”.

Vacation mode: super energy saving mode to activate when you leave for some days

Use energy-saving VAC mode when you are planning to be away from home for some period. The factory default temperature set point is 15.0°C, but any temperature from 1°C to 37°C can be set.

Scheduling your heating profiles with TIME mode

HELTUN High Load Switch can have different temperature schedules for Morning, Daytime, Evening and Night. For example, the “Morning” schedule could be set to 22.0°C starting at 6:00. The “Day” schedule could then be set to 17.0°C at 9:00 when everyone has left for work or school, and so on. The set point will be automatically changed upon activation of the next schedule.

Using built-in hardware consumption meter to create scenarios

Energy saving scenarios may be activated based on measured consumption for a given amount of time. For example, decrease heating temperature if certain amount of kWh per month is exceeded.

Using High Load Switch to remove ice from roofs and paths

High Load Switch may be connected to an electrical de-icing system that prevents ice formation. As HELTUN High Load Switch may work at very low 1–4°C set points, it gives you an energy saving solution for keeping your roofs, paths, gutters, downspouts, and eaves constantly de-iced.

Controlling electric fireplaces

HELTUN High Load Switch controls the electric fireplaces by sending a signal to turn on or off based on the desired temperature set by the user. The High Load Switch can also use data from other sensors, such as motion and occupancy sensors, or security alarm, to optimize the heating for energy efficiency. The High Load Switch can also be controlled from the Z-Wave hub that receives data from other temperature sensors and thermostats.

Control water boiler or electric boiler with High Load Switch

There are several ways to control a water boiler or electric boiler with a smart high load switch:

  1. Remote control: High Load Switches can be controlled remotely using a smartphone app or voice commands, allowing you to turn the boiler on and off from anywhere, and you can even set schedules for the boiler to turn on and off automatically.

  5. Fully automated home: High Load Switches can be integrated with other smart home devices, such as thermostats and security systems, to create a fully automated home. You can even wire physical buttons to control high-load devices.

  6. Voice control: Many smart switches work with virtual assistants such as Alexa or Google Assistant, which allows you to control your devices using voice commands.

Timeout off for high load appliances

High Load Switch supports setting a time limit for a certain amount of load. This limit will regulate how long the switch will remain powered on before automatically turning off: iron, coffee machine, electric space heater, electric tea kettle, electric oven/grill, toaster etc.

This feature can be particularly beneficial for caregivers, as well as for individuals of all ages, including older and younger relatives.

Measuring consumption for high load appliances from electric panel

Measuring consumption for high load appliances is also available by installing High Load Switch on a DIN rail in your circuit for example electric space heaters, or all air-conditioners, or mashing/drying machines, or groups of lights. In order to install a High Load switch on a DIN rail it’s recommended to use a Micromodule Adapter provided as an accessory.

Controlling electric water heater by a button

This allows you to turn on the water heater only when you need it. In this case, the push button is wired to the external input of High Load Switch, and High Load Switch turns on the boiler for a specified time only when the button is pressed.

Turn off all sockets when leaving your house

Installed in electric panel on a DIN rail, High Load Switch can help you turn off groups or all sockets when leaving your house except critical ones (like fridge):

  1. By time scheduling

  2. By pressing physical button

  3. By activating security alarm

In case of #2 and #3 security alarms and critical buttons may be wired to EXT input or associated with High Load Switch.

Turn off all lights when leaving your house

Same functionality as the previous example but High Load Switch turns off particular groups of lights or all lights when you leave your house. Again, in this case we recommend installing High Load Switch on a DIN rail in your electric panel.

Using Touch Panel Switch as a heating thermostat

Touch Panel Switch is the most multi-functional device by HELTUN. In this setup, Touch Panel Switch transmits room temperature data from the internal sensor to High Load Switch that is connected to the heating system. Heating may be activated automatically based on temperature difference or using one of the buttons on the touch panel.

High Load Switch can control the backlight of the button to indicate if the heating is on or off (red/blue color).
